The goals of the evaluation are to:
- provide reflective feedback to registrars on their clinical reasoning skills
- establish levels and associations of clinical reasoning skills of registrars
- provide evidence for potential improvements in clinical reasoning skills among GP registrars through the course of training.
This project included GP Synergy GPT1 registrars who are subsequently tracked through training.
The study utilizes the Diagnostic Thinking Inventory (DTI). The DTI was previously assessed for its usefulness in the Supervisor Clinical Reasoning project.
GPT1 registrars are invited to complete the DTI questionnaire online. Registrars who complete the DTI at Time 1 are invited to complete the DTI again at the end of Term 2. The project team are currently considering, with the education team, the value of inviting registrars to complete a final DTI at the end of Term 3.
Registrars are provided with individual reports on their performance on the DTI at each time point. Registrars are encouraged to reflect on their results, to seek discussion about their results and clinical reasoning with their supervisor and/or ME, and to review resources offered in the report.
