The goals of this project were to answer the following research questions.Primary research questions:
- What proportion of GP registrars’ consultations for acute respiratory tract infections (ARTI) are managed with delayed antibiotic prescribing?
- How does the proportion of delayed prescribing differ by type of ARTI: acute bronchitis, URTI, acute sore throat, acute otitis media, acute sinusitis?
Secondary research questions:
- What are the associations of GP registrars managing of ARTIs with delayed prescribing compared to immediate prescribing?
- What are the associations of GP registrars managing of ARTIs with delayed prescribing compared to no prescribing?
The project included registrars from GP Synergy, EVGPT, GPTT, that participated in ReCEnT 2017.1 and 2017.2.
Nested within the ReCEnT study, an additional question regarding delayed prescribing was added to the ReCEnT Case Report Form. Two clinical vignettes were also added to the ReCEnT ‘Practice and Projects’ questionnaire.
