This project addressed the following questions:
- What are general practice registrars’ and supervisors’ experiences of using delayed antibiotic prescribing for self-limiting respiratory tract infections?
- What are their perceptions of the utility of, and attitudes to, delayed antibiotic prescribing for self-limiting respiratory tract infections?
Participants in the project were registrars and supervisors in 2018.1 from GP Synergy and GPTT.
Invitations were sent to all potential participants inviting them to participate in an interview regarding delayed prescribing of antibiotics for self-limiting respiratory tract infections.
Our previous work suggests that registrars find antibiotic prescribing a difficult and sometimes distressing area of practice and that the registrar-supervisor relationship is central to registrars’ experiences and prescribing decisions. The findings from this qualitative study will be of benefit in informing educational strategies for registrars around delayed prescribing.
