This qualitative project aimed to explore the experiences of mentors and mentees in GP Synergy’s Mentorship Program, a state-wide peer-to-peer mentorship program for GP registrars.
Specifically, the project aimed to gain further understanding of:
- how the mentoring relationship works
- perceived benefits
- barriers encountered
- how the program might influence feelings of professional isolation, training satisfaction and future work plans.
The project included a mix of current and former GP registrars who have been GP Synergy Mentorship Program participants from 2015-2018.1.
Focus groups and semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with registrars who have been mentees and/or mentors in the program to explore their experiences and perceptions. Interview transcripts were analysed to examine themes.
